At the beginning of July we were delighted to welcome our new Finance & HR Manager, Liz Burnell.

Liz brings a wealth of experience with her and she has already made a positive impact on both the internal culture of the company and externally from a finance perspective.

We’ve caught up with Liz to find out a bit more about her and to see how she’s settling in with the DA Team.

So Liz, tell us a bit about yourself?
I live locally to DA Systems on a Polo Yard… It’s so lovely waking up to the beautiful horses every morning! My 2 grown up kids still live at home, the eldest is starting her degree and the youngest just started his apprenticeship. My Fiancé works in Northumberland, so we travel between North and South every weekend. We also have a beautiful Springador called Arlo, he’s by far the best little thing ever!!!!

How long have you worked in Finance / HR?
My finance career started at GlaxoSmithKline 25 years ago, moving on to E J Churchill shooting ground while my children were growing up. As soon as they were at secondary school I worked in Mayfair for a private family office where I finished my studies, this was a great experience and taught me so much.

My next move was to Harwood Hutton Chartered Accountants for a short time until I saw that E J Churchill needed a Financial Controller!!! I jumped at the chance to go back! It was here that I had a crash course in HR.

When I saw the vacancy for DA Systems come up I was intrigued by the company core values and the EOS plan they were using to grow and strengthen the business. It was an opportunity for me to be part of something great!

Have you made any significant changes to the department so far?
I wouldn’t say there’s been anything significant yet but simple changes have been made, such as planning, prioritising and communicating.

What’s your goal for this year in terms of HR / Finance?
DA Systems are already going from strength to strength, so my goal is to make sure the Leadership Team are armed with all of the relevant financial information they need to make decisions on current and future projects.

Staff training will also be a goal, the DA Team are our biggest asset and we need to make sure we develop them to their very best 🙂

Do you have any messages for our customers?
I’ve never worked for a more professional company, the dedication and team work that goes into every project and every customer is beyond outstanding. You’ll not find better!
